As you edit the items, you will be prompted as to whether you want the changes to be retroactive or just going forward.
Before you start make a backup file. Change one item and/or account to see if things get changed the way you want them to. If you don't like the results then just restore your last backup.
I would like to revamp my chart of accounts and most of the items in my Items list. Is there a way to globally change the account that all items within a certain group are pointing to?
For example, I have Materials:Service with many items under the Service heading. They all point to Income:Materials:Service. I'd like to make them all point to Income:Service. Is there a way to do that change globally? Or an addon that would do that?
There *might* be a third party app that could make the changes for you but I doubt it will make the changes to transactions that have used those items.

If you edit and change the name of the account or merge the account, it will change all the items for you. Make sure you back up first!

Also make sure you do not have any items pointing to Income:Materials:Service that you want to point ot this account.
