Import IIF error

Oct 18, 2006 3 Replies

When importing a chart of accounts (exported from Quickbooks Premier) into

2006/7 Quickbooks Accounting, I get an error message;

"Error on line 74: You can't change the type of account." The import then appears to terminate and presumably at account #73.

Assuming the obvious, that line 74 has actually had its account type changed, how does one identify "line 74"? Is this simply the 74th entry from the top? And if so do I merely delete the account or can I return it to its original account type.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

You need to open the iif file in Excel to determine if this is the problem. And it will be line 74.

You should also find an import error log in the C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\IMport Error log that may shed further light on what was imported and what was not.

Thanks Bob

Great tip! I didn't know you could open the iif file in Excel or that an error log was produced.

Were you able to open this in Excel? Did it help narrow down the issue?
