Importing Orders Into QB 2008 Pro

I would like to import orders into QB. Seems like IIF files might be the way to go, but how do I handle customers - some will be new, some will be in QB already. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Be careful here. If you import, and a name or item or account doesn't exist, QuickBooks will create it for you, sometimes with unintended consequences.

Create a backup of your data file, and test first. I have done this numerous times, and for the most part runs trouble free.

I agree with Gary E on IIF imports. If you are not careful you can create a real mess. I worked with a QuickBooks user this week that had imported their lists from Peachtree to QuickBooks. We spent a couple of hours cleaning up duplicate names that were created during the process that corrupted his company file.

the customer exists in your company file this tool will add thetransaction to the exiting customer. If the customer does not existthis tool will create it. In addition, this tool allows you to importmy customer account number if there is a chance that the same customermay appear in a slightly different format than what your company filehas (eg your import file has John A. Smith and your company file hasJohn Smith).
