Viewing / reporting QB from additional PC

Sorry, newbie question.

Small-office client has one PC running QuickBooks 2006 Professional Services on the bookkeeper's desk. Company owner wants ability to look at the company's books and maybe run some reports from her own PC, but doesn't want the expense of a second full-blown QB installation.

Does QB (or anyone) make a "viewer" program in a similar vein to the free PowerPoint viewer Microsoft makes available? Something with which a person can look but not change the main QB file? Doesn't have to be free tho.

Thanks.

No QB viewer program that I know of. But an alternative would be to get something like LogMeIn or GoToMyPC so that the owner can connect to the Bookkeeper's desk to run the reports. This only works when the bookkeeper is not at their desk.

It might be better if the owner asks the bookkeeper for the reports she needs. Mysterious changes always happen when a non-bookkeeper has access to the company books.

Not true, the bookkeeper can be at his or her desk. Will not work if said bookkeeper is picking their nose.

Sure tell the owner they are stupid, great advice.

Yeah right. Have the owner just connect to the bookkeepers computer anytime she wants and takes over the computer. Better yet have the owner log in and scare the sh*t out of the bookkeeper when the mouse suddenly starts moving.

Yup. No problem. Gotta do it with tact but it does work.

If you have 2 copies of QB a 2nd user can access the data base. The second username can be restricted in access to allow reports only. If you have only one copy of the software then only one computer at a time may access the data. In our office we purchased a second copy of QB and installed it on several computers. While the bookkeeper was in QB any one of the other computers could view QB data but only one. Intuit has it set up so the serial number of QB is registered on the data. Only one copy of any single serial number can access the data. A second copy of QBP 2006 can probably be picked up on e-Bay for well under $200.
