special orders

What is the best way to handle special orders... would it be via work orders? We would like to have two "special order" items that require 6 or so input criteria, i.e. if a cashier selects the item, they would have to input various selections such as color, finish, cloth type, etc. Any ideas on how to handle this? Thanks, Dallas.

I'm guessing there has to be a way to handle this other than via an add-in. Aside from that, the add-in looked like a little overkill for what we are needing. This should be a fairly simple request; can this be done via a non-inventory item and then typing in the description of the individual specifications? I would prefer to have an area (or pop-up) where the cashier would fill in 6 or so requirements for special orders. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Dallas

We use work orders for our special orders. I have a a macro recorded that makes the Order Reference 'SO' and the Order Comment 'SPECIAL ORDER'.

We use a non-inventory item 'SO' that requires the cashier to enter the price and leaves it up to the cashier to enter the item, supplier, supplier p/n, and (if we're lucky) a cost code (we have a 10-letter phrase that corresponds with the numbers 0-9 that we use to display cost info where customers might see it). The cashiers have been instructed to change the description of the SO line item to 'Item, Supplier' and to enter everything else as an item comment (Ctrl-F10).

It's far from perfect, but it works.

If you find macros and workarounds are insufficient for your needs, you can download a trial version of Special Order Tracker. SO Tracker streamlines the process from sales order entry through delivery.

'd be happy to add the user-defined fields you want in a pop-up. Thisinformation could be added as a line item comment to appear on the invoiceor as ext. description to appear on invoice and/or purchase orders. Greg Digital Retail Solutions
