Installing Templates

When attempting to install templates from the QB template gallery, windows does not recognize the file type.

Any suggestions on installing the templates?

Thank you.

What's Windows got to do with it? You're importing a report template? Open your QB file. Reports, Memorized Reports, Memorized Report List. From the Memorized Report menu at the bottom of the list, Import Templates.

What windows has to do with it is that the user receives a windows error, not a QB error. The OP merely stated the error he received when he opened the file, and requested suggestions on installing the template.

Just last week I asked the same question. It had been years since I had last downloaded a report. I had not thought to open the memorized report list to import templates, and doubt I would ever have thought to go to a LIST to access an IMPORT function. Allan was very helpful.

In my post of 5/8 I had noted that the template gallery link I have is old, and while still maintained, is *NOT* on the new QB site map.

Anyone know if/where Intuit is providing user templates now? The link was useful, a first place to start when I needed a report not offered so that I didn't have to reinvent the wheel. Since it is not on the new home page site map, I am guessing the template gallery could disappear at any time.

No, he didn't actually state the error, nor what he was doing when he received the error. I'm glad I was able to help him despite that, and I'm glad Allan was helpful in response to your question.

Apparently my thought processes are sometimes unusual. It DID occur to me to look at the list of memorized reports in order to import a report template, though others obviously don't think the same way. It also occurred to me to look at Help where I found information about importing report templates and form templates. I'm quite happy I was able to share that information.

Sorry, I don't know whether Intuit still provides user templates (or a link to another source).

Heh. had the same problem. The link says " QuickBooks will open a dialog showing details of the form template. To keep this form template, choose OK and it will be stored in your company file. You also have the option of editing the template or canceling the operation. "

As we both found out, that is not the case. QB doesn't open any dialog. Windows does -- asking for what program to use for opening the template. Selecting QB is not the correct answer.

There is a SEPERATE FAQ at

formatting link
instructions for USING downloaded templates, that tells you that to find the template open the list for the type of template. At the bottom of that list, is an import button.

Go figure.......
