Interesting shortcut

QB2006 - Just discovered.

When a proposed check number appears, as in "Print Check nnnn," the number is often wrong -- I don't know why, but it is.

QB, no doubt realizing that the check number proffered is probably not the one you want, helpfully highlights the number so you can supply the correct one.

Instead of typing the new number, tape the (+/=) key and the highlighted check number increments by one!

Weird. Useful..., but weird.

If you hit the minus key, does it decrement by one?

Glad you found that. Its one of those features I've used heavily for a while (as pointed out, its a feature you can use with the date as well and has been around for as long as I can remember). The other feature I use enough to notice, pertaining to the check number field, is the asterisk key to change a numbered check to one that needs To Print. I have a bad tendancy to click OK when checks are printing so if an error happens in the print run its easiest for me to just tell the check to print again in the register.

Cool.

Let's have a QB "Easter Egg Hunt."

I think the most useful set of keyboard shortcuts are for date fields. They basically use a mnemonic of the first letter of the action goes back, and the last letter goes forward. Hence:

w - back to 1st day of current Week. k - forward to last day of current weeK. m - back to 1st day of current Month. h - forward to last day of current montH. y - back to 1st day of current Year. r - forward to last day of curreny yeaR.

(repeated strokes on these keys moves a full increment).

And, as mentioned, the +/- keys move forward and back one day at a time.

This has been in QB forever...

One of the few useful features Intuit created, has since been copied by many other programs.
