Last Check Number?

Quicken 2008 Premier Windows XP

Where on earth does Quicken store its last check number? Somehow mine got out of whack so that if I choose "Next Check Num" from the dialog box in the register, that number is WRONG! If I manually override it, it's OK for that check number, but then the NEXT time I write a check, the "next check Num" choice reverts back to the next WRONG number, if that makes sense.

I do I permanently correct the check number so that the "next check Num" selection really is the correct number?

Thanks,

The way to reset the Next Check Number IS to manually enter the check number.

I don't know what you mean when you say you "manually override it", but that doesn't sound right.

Enter a transaction from scratch; do not elect Next Check Number, just key the correct next check number in the Num field. Once that transaction is "Enter"ed, your Next Check Number should be correct.

Thanks, John. What I meant by "manually override it" was exactly what you describe: ie., typing in the correct check number.

The difference between what you describe and what I was doing is that I was first selecting "Next Check Num", Quicken would then enter the WRONG number (let's say 3121), which I would then correct that to "5041". Then the next time I wrote a check and selected "Next Check Num", Quicken would enter "3122". And so on.

I'll try staying away from the "Next Check Num" the next time and see what happens.

Thanks again.

That was my guess. It won't work if you do it that way.
