Numbering General Journal Entries Important or Useful?

Apr 12, 2006 1 Replies

I got a lot of general journal entries that are unnumbered. A fee of them have "Visa" and "Sel Pur" under the number column. I just looked at preferences and it's set to auto number. A couple of entries I just made didn't get numbers either.

Is numbering useful/important?

It's useful if it helps you find or refer to a particular transaction. It's also useful and may be important if your books are audited or reviewed, as it demonstrates a systematic approach which may increase your credibility and the auditor's confidence in your bookkeeping and may thereby somewhat reduce the time and cost of the audit or review.
