PC / Macintosh compatibility

Where would I find out if Quicken files created on a Mac can be read by PC Quicken?

What about Quickbooks files created on a Mac can be read by PC Quickbooks?

Go to the Quicken website for info on Quicken. As for Quickbooks, as of version 6.0 (possibly 5.0) and the current 7.0 aka 2005 the files are swappable between Mac and Windows. HOWEVER, errors *still* occur if you try to work the file on both platforms. Even with the newest version and newest release installed I still cannot print checks in the Windows version of a file created on my Mac. They read fine, I can make other entries fine, but printing checks is a no-no.

I haven't attempted a reverse by taking a Windows QB file and trying to work it on my Mac because the Mac version still doesn't have built-in payroll and many other features of the Windows version. The latest releases of both versions claim to fix the check printing problem but I haven't found it fixed yet. Be aware that for some reason my Mac QB 2005 isn't fully compatible with my Win QB 2005 for some reason. I can read the file ok but if I make any changes then send it back to Mac it says I used a newer version. I was also seeing this problem with Win 2004 supposedly being a later version than my Mac's 2005 but that may be fixed now.

Go to Intuit's website at

and browse around. I believe they have a forum there where you can ask this question and get more feedback. AFAIK only myself and one other person, newer to QB for Mac than I am, uses the Mac version on this ng.
