Pro 99 - Release 3 or 4?

May 21, 2005 24 Replies

Hi,

Again, I visited Intuit's webpage for Pro 99 "old updates" to double-check if there was something I missed that would point me to the Free manual download of release 3 update.

formatting link
Found this:

"Free updates are always available online through your QuickBooks software using the "QuickBooks Update Service. **(A manual download alternative is also available.** This is "recommended if you have multiple versions of QuickBooks installed on the same computer)

"The most current update is release 4 (R4), also known as the QuickBooks Tax Table Service "Maintenance Release. For specific details about R4, see What's new in QuickBooks 99 and "QuickBooks Pro 99, release 4 (R4)?"

(asterisks are mine)

Since it is Free, I do not understand why it is so difficult to find a user here willing to share his/her saved manual download. (maybe there is another Intuit forum I'm supposed to ask this question in? Please tell me where.)

Intuit's text (above) states that release 3 is a 'maintenance update' not the software program itself. So, there is no harm in asking someone to share their saved copy of a maintenance release is there? Please set me straight if I am wrong. Documentation would be helpful.

Thanks for reading this.

People in general don't download and keep these updates. So this is probably why you're not finding anyone with it.

I have one I downloaded in July of 2002. I do not know what revision it is. I no longer use 99 or payroll so am clueless. If you want to see what this is and if it'll help I'll forward it to you if there is a way to contact you outside of this forum.

You'll be on your own with it - please remember there could be issues effecting data by using it.

Its difficult finding users still running version 99 let along one that manually downloaded R3 and kept it and view this Newsgroup. 99.99999% of the users back in 1999 would have moved to R4 especially if they used payroll and needed to print year end payroll forms.

none, Thanks for your input. What you and Allan pointed out does make sense. It

*is* 2005 after all. :-)

Your offer is kind and very much appreciated. If you would zip it and send to: mmmmdonuts at atlantic dot net , I'll check it out. Can't hurt to try. Your warning regarding data issues is duly noted. :-)

Thanks again!

Thanks, none! I received the update file. Will check it out maybe Tuesday... :-)
