QB Pro 1999 to QB 2007 & Vista?

Vista itself is going to cause headaches. Get a computer with XP Pro that is upgradable to Vista. Wait a year (or 2) when they release SP1 for Vista to upgrade.

Converting your file from 99 to 2007 *should* work. Worse case, is you have to find a Pro Advisor that has other versions like 2004 pro and can convert your file to that version for you. Converting from 2004 to 2007 is not a problem.

We converted from QB 2004 on Windows XP Pro to QB 2007 Pro on Vista and it was painless. If you have a problem, call them up and they will walk you through it if my prior experience is a guide.

It "should" convert. I just ran a test using QB2007 and it converted a QB99 sample file without any apparent problem.

I strongly recommend that you run a Full Rebuild on the data file from within QB99 before you upgrade the file.

What exactly do you mean my "a Full Rebuild" and how is that performed? TIA Paula

I don't have QB99 installed anymore, but this should get you going:

1. Open the company file in QB99.
2. Close all of QB's internal windows (select Close All on the Windows menu).
3. Select the menu item named something like "Rebuild Data" on the File menu (might be a sub-menu of Utilities item).

You will be prompted to make a backup. The rebuild process attempts to correct any inconsistencies in the data file that can build-up from normal usage.

Be sure to use the rebuilt yourcompany.QBW file when you open it in QB 2007 -- not the yourcompany.QBB backup file. In fact, make a copy of the QBW file first so you have a backup in QB99 format.

I always put the version name in the filename, such as:

mycompany-vQB1999.QBW mycompany-vQB2007.QBW
