Quicken 2007 "jiggles?"

I hope someone can help, I've searched Googles archives for the group and can't find anything relevent.

My Quicken 2007 "jiggles" on Windows XP, does NOT jiggle on Vista Ultimate 64 bit and no other software does that on XP or on Vista.

The screen is unsteady, it doesn't crash, everything works but the screen flashes and dances almost continually, it's pretty darn annoying. It has to be some combination of Quicken 2007 plus my video card plus Windows XP?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Here's the specs:

Chip: Athlon 64 3400+ MB: ASUS K8VSE Deluxe

1GB of RAM Video Card: EVGA nVidia GeForce 6200 LE, 256MB DDR2, latest drivers from EVGA (note the Vista 64 driver is different than the XP driver, maybe that's the problem?) Hard drive: Maxtor 160MB partitioned into several partitions. OSs: Windows XP Pro on drive C:, Vista Ultimate 64 on drive D: Software: Quicken 2007 updated to latest. Quicken data files are on drive E: and shared so running Quicken in either XP or Vista uses the same data file(s).

Replying to myself, I just found a new driver on EVGA's site for both Vista and XP, don't know how I'd missed them unless they're very recent but installing new drivers didn't change anything.

BTW, the jiggle in XP is most noticeable during online updates.

Hi, XS11E.

Let me grasp at a straw for you. ;^}

Could it be that you are using a 64-bit WinXP driver on your 32-bit WinXP Pro?

Probably not, but...

This screen flicker is one of those long-standing issues that has been documented in prior releases, and it still exists in 2007. I have the same problem, but it's usually most noticeable and repeatable when I surf in a browser while Quicken is downloading bank and quote updates.

I had a screen flicker problem in Quicken 2007 when I updated the Microsoft optical wireless mouse from Ver 5 to Ver 6. When I reverted to Ver 5, the flicker disappeared.

Hmmm, I don't think that's the problem but I can do some investigation. I was using a Logitech optical wired mouse with Logitech's SetPoint software and had the flicker. Unfortunately, Quicken and SetPoint had a conflict and Logitech promised a new SetPoint that would eliminate the conflict, until the new SetPoint is available I switched the mouse to a BTC mouse with MSFT's Intellipoint driver version 6.2.29.0. I don't know where I could find an earlier version to try?

I could use the BTC driver in XP (it won't work in Vista 64) and I

*will* give that a try but because I had the failure with the Logitech mouse and driver I'm not sure that will help any?

One thing, though, I said I haven't had any problems in Vista 64 and, of course, the IntelliPoint driver is different in the 64 bit OS than it is in XP. I was thinking that only the nVidia driver were different, you've given me something else to think about!

Thanks a bunch, I'll report back after I change to the BTC driver.

Here's a link to the Intellipoint 5 driver:

No, I don't think it would even install. The two drivers are pretty clearly marked:

158.18_forceware_winvista_64bit_english_whql.exe and

94.24_forceware_winxp_english_whql.exe

It was worth a look, though, thanks for the idea.

Thanks, my main concern is I've been running Quicken since DOS days and have never seen this before however, my running Quicken 2007 pretty much coincides with my purchase of my current video card.

This could be just one more problem in my long line of OK to good experiences with ATI video cards and bad to awful with nVidia cards..

Thanks, I did get it and it seems to have worked.

I think I recall reading that switching to an earlier Intellipoint driver solved this problem for some users. Not sure, but version 5.0 sort of rings a bell for me.

I had reinstalled XP Pro and did not install IntelliPoint, as I'm using a Logitech G5 mouse and Logitech keyboard. I didn't install any Logitech drivers. Any direction that I could look in this instance?

John, While you might have been out of sequence on this thread, I piggybacked off of your post because I felt it important to clarify that the Ver. 5.0, which you had mentioned, is the correct one to use. I've found that Ver. 5.5 does cause the wiggles/jiggles, so someone using that release of Ver 5 might become confused. It's all meant to be helpful, so I think no harm done! Rob C.

My apologies for not knowing that "Jim Jensen" had already suggested the answer.

My ISP is terrible; newsgroup posts are deleted practically as soon as they are received. I have to download Newsgroup posts from two sources: my ISP (so I can "reply"), and from another source that keeps posts long enough for me to keep track of them. Sometimes, keeping track of what has been said before is quite difficult in these circumstances.

Again, my apologies. There is no doubt that Jim was the source of the solution; and if I had seen his post, I would not have made mine.

No problem, your post was very welcome, particularly as you didn't know Jim had already posted.

I've done the same thing on several occasions, posted an answer and, later, found someone else had done so before me. It happens, don't feel bad about it.

Last night I found myself at Fry's Electronics and, while shopping, decided to grab a new mouse, another BTC mouse that was $6.99, about the same as my previous BTC mouse but it was a 5 button mouse with buttons for "back" and "forward" while using a web browser or customizable to other functions.

Just for kicks I downloaded the driver for the M850 from BTC site and removed Intellipoint 5.x and installed the BTC driver and... no jiggle!

Go figure! I'll have to keep the Intellipoint in Vista 64 as the BTC driver is almost 5 years old and won't install in Vista.
