A "heads-up" if you use Canadian QuickBooks 2006:
I have discovered two date-reporting issues with QB2006 (Accountant's Edition, but presumably other editions as well?).
Intuit Technical Support are aware of the issues, but are unable to tell if or when a fix will be provided. Originally, I expected a fix in the recently-released R3 update, but no such luck.
The issues are:
***********************************************************************************************Win XP Pro format set as yyyy-mm-dd.
Report in a client file opened in QB 2005, date format is yyyy-mm-dd as
expected.
Same client / same report opened in QB 2006, format is mm dd yy -- despite
the preference in General | Company Preferences \"Always show years as 4
digits\" being checked on.
Drilling down from the report to the underlying transaction / document, date
is formatted correctly
***********************************************************************************************Exporting a report with this date-format issue to Excel (e.g. for further
analysis), the 'Date' field exports as text not as a date format. E.g.
November 7 2005 I prefer displayed as 2005 11 07, the new QB2006 format shows
it as 11 07 05, which is exported to Excel as a text string '11 07 05' not a
date and cannot be sorted on as a date. E.g. dates of Nov 7 2005, June 11
2006 and April 22 2007 sort, ascending, in Excel as 04 02 2007, then 06 112006, then 11 07 2005. Interestingly, while the report dates in QB display
as mm dd yy, they export to Excel as mm dd yyyy, even though they export as
text !!
