Or at least spent the time developing a patch like they are doing for QB2005. Intuit seems to have abandoned 2004 BEFORE the sunset date which is not fair to their customers.
I think we are going to see a bigger problems of incompatibility when VISTA starts rolling out.

The Sunset Policy and Intuit's common practice to support the most current version of QuickBooks, plus the prior two versions are not the same. They are two different animals. There are lots of things in life that seem unfair but that's the way it is. Every software company must make a decision just how far back they will go to support a particular application. I expect every vendor to go back to day one for all the applications I use. I say that because I am the center of the universe.
If you have critial applications then only an idiot would upgrade without first making sure they have a version that is certififed to run in that environment.

As you can plainly see below revising QB 2004 which is 3 versions old is not in the stars.

And at the same time, we periodically discontinue services (primarily live support and certain business services such as payroll and credit card processing services) to older versions of QuickBooks.
