I tried installing QB03 on an XP box. Installation was uneventful. When I open QBW, the program opens briefly then closes within 3 seconds. This used to happen on W98 boxes. I was able to solve by uninstalling Internet Explorer 6 (actually downgrading to IE5), then reinstalling IE6.
Has anyone seen this on XP & know the solution to the problem?
I would attempt running a file on your machine called 'reboot.bat' (just double click it). You should find it under the QuickBooks directory. From what I understand, it's a batch file that reregisters all of the QuickBooks files. If you had QuickBooks I would recommend running the repair feature under the add/remove programs control panel.
If reboot.bat doesn't work, I'd uninstall QuickBooks, through the 'add/remove programs' control panel and then reinstall QuickBooks to a clean directory.
If reinstalling to a clean directory doesn't do it, then you can rename your "Intuit" common files folder - under: C:\Program Files\Common Files - maybe rename it to: "OLDIntuit". After renaming and again uninstalling QuickBooks, try to reinstall to a new clean directory. If the only Intuit program you have installed on your machine is QuickBooks no worries, but if you have Quicken or TurboTax you may need to reinstall those programs since the older Intuit software out there (2004 and earlier) would put things in that folder.
In regards to IE, if IE is corrupted, which I wouldn't suspect just yet, the best bet would be to try and reinstall IE, and all IE components, about the best you can do short of following an MS article or two on manually yanking it out and reinstalling it.
I had a similar problem to opening certain programs on my daughter's computer. It was traced to spyware.
Your problem may have the same origin. My suspicion is bolstered by the fact you had to uninstall and reinstall your browser to correct the initial problem.

All of this is of course assuming you are actually executing QB, and not just double-clicking on the QBW file to open.
The OP says he has this same problem on two different computers. Therefore, its hard to believe it is a bad installation. I still vote for a conflict with something else he has on both machines.

Not really. He mentioned this used to happen on his windows98 machines prior to this installation on his XP machine. OP, did you upgrade the OS from 98 to XP? Or did this machine come with XP?
'Reboot.bat' and/or repairing QuickBooks in 2005 only takes a second, and doesn't hurt anything. In 2004 and earlier, 'reboot.bat' fixes a number of things, in 2005 the repair feature is the magic pill.
Another question to ask here is if you tried to update QuickBooks to the latest revision prior to trying to run it. You can get the manual updates from the

website, under program updates, under useful links.
btw, for google's sake, ...I wouldn't run reboot.bat on QuickBooks 2005 installs. I would strictly use the Repair feature (under the add/remove programs control panel).
