Setting up budgets in QB Contractor 2006

Apr 22, 2006 1 Replies

I just got QB Contractor 2006 and am a general contractor who does residential home building. I build 10 floor plans and would like to put together 1 budget for each floor plan.

Then I would like to associate that ONE budget with 12 different houses.

In other words I create a budget for a 2790 Sq Ft house and then assign that budget to the 12 houses that we are building that are 2790 sq ft. Then I can run a report showing the budget vs actuals on each of the 12 houses. But I can't see how to copy the same budget from project to project.

We are building 70 houses this year so surely I don't have to create 70 different budgets to go with each house even though 12 houses would all have the exact same budget???

How do I copy one budget from project to project?

Thanks in advance,

This may be a terminology difference but Budgets are generally something you setup for your company while Estimates are what you setup for customers & jobs.

To accomplish what you want with Estimates:

Create the estimate for each floor plan, memorize them with a distinct name.

To use those estimate templates per job go to Lists>Memorized Transactions and select the estimate that matches the floorplan you're about to build.

Enter the job name at the top of the estimate, make any modifications you want then Save & Close.

I do this all the time for my homebuilder clients as it saves a significant amount of time over creating an estimate from scratch.
