Adding buttons?

Does Quicken 2011 have a way to add new buttons to screens. Specifically, I would like to create a single-button "download quotes" button on the investments screen.

On my investment portfolio screen it is 2 clicks now: Update button, then quotes.

You can add that to your Quicken Toolbar ... making it accessible from anywhere in Quicken.

[Right click in the Quicken Toolbar, click Customize Toolbar, make sure there's a checkmark in "Show all toolbar choices". Select "Quotes"; click "Add".]

Hi, John.

I didn't know that!

Thanks for the tip. And Thanks to Stubby for asking the question. ;>)

To make things even easier you can then click the "Edit Icons..." button and assign the item a shortcut, e.g. Alt+Shift+Q.

A neat feature is that the shortcut continues to work even if you hide the toolbar [View -> Show Tool Bar].

Oops! The "Edit Icons..." button (Q10) has been renamed "Assign keyboard shortcut..." (Q11), but there's no change in how it works.

I know of no magic for that. But it's a curious request given your initial desire.

"I would like to create a single-button 'download quotes' button on the investments screen".

That question presumed that you had gotten yourself to the "investments screen" in some non-automatic way before you would do the quote download.

You can have a Quicken Toolbar icon to go to the Investment Portfolio screen. That would allow you to do what you want from anywhere else in Quicken, with two clicks.

[You could also have Quicken open to the Investment Portfolio screen when it starts; then click the Toolbar "Quotes" button.]

I sometimes download quotes just to get updated totals in my Account Bar. I'd be unhappy if Quicken took me off my current screen.

If two mouse clicks aren't easy enough, assign shortcuts P and Q to the "Go to Investing > Portfolio" and "Quotes" toolbar items and use the slightly faster Alt+Shift+PQ [2 keystrokes]. Or use two letters that are closer together on the keyboard.

To get multiple actions with a single keystroke or mouse click use keyboard and/or mouse macro software.

P.S. It's hard to believe that giving someone *exactly* what they asked for merits a satisfaction rating of only "close" :-)
