Any way to delete inactive/dead accounts

I am using 2002 Deluxe and have a bunch of inactive/dead accounts--banks, investments. Is there any clean way to delete them?

I was thinking of upgrading to the 2006 deluxe or premier version, but would like to clean up this clutter before I do that.

ACCOUNTS-->DELETE? (I can't remember if Q2002D has such a navigation, but probably so!)

But be sure you REALLY want to delete them. You lose the ability to generate historical reports, and some of your linked transactions will no longer have that information contained within if the 'other' account is still active. Perhaps you might just wish to 'HIDE' these accounts instead?

If you do delete them, be sure to back up your Quicken data files so you can get at the info in the future somehow if you need it!

Well I know I could delete them, but like you point out I woud lose historical info. BTW what does happen to the historical data if you delete accounts?

I have too many accounts and would like to crunch down the list to avoid the clutter. Would hiding do that--I find it particualry irritating in the drop down categories list in the check register when so many accounts show up in the small drop down window--you cannot resize that drop down window.

The historical data contained within goes away! That's why you need to think about doing this! You lose the abilities to view all of those transactions since the account no longer exists.

Yes, when you HIDE the accounts, then they will no longer appear in that drop down list as a potential account to select a linked transaction to. They're 'hidden', after all (!). The only place I think they will show up at that point is on the ACCOUNTS tab where you get to 'manage' them...that's where you'd be clicking on the box to either hide or unhide then to start with.

Andrew it does not work. I hid several accounts, they still show in the drop down list in the check register when you select categories. Any other workarounds?

Bummer - in the ACCOUNTS list, under OPTIONS, do you the 'VIEW HIDDEN ACCOUNTS' checked or unchecked? If it is checked, UNCHECK it and try again!

That's the basic ticket. But interestingly, you must switch out of the account register you have open before the hiding takes effect.
