Car Loan Payments & Expense Reports

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but here's my problem. When I ask for a report of Automobile expenses, Quicken tells me all of the appropriate car-related expenses contained in the car-related categories. It does not include the car loan payments.

Since I have set up Quicken to have the car loan payments done from the checking account as a transfer to the car loan (liability) account, the transfers don't show up as Car expenses. My checking account and liability account show the right amounts but the problem I described above still exists.

Have I set up my accounts incorrectly?

I doubt yout accounts are set up incorrectly. It is a design feature of Quicken. Transfers between accounts are not deemed expenses as they do not affect your overall net wealth position. Reducing an asset while simultaneously reducing a liability has a zero effect on your overall wealth position.

You'll have to create a specific report that includes transfers to the liability account as well as the auto expense categories to see your cash flow position re automobile spending.

As I said in my quoted post:

Here is a sample of such a report. Open the attachment in that post.
