Q06- which version?

I've been running Q for years, for back accounts and credit card accounts. I don't use it for investment accounts. I have 04 and am considering upgrading to 06. Can I use Basic or do I need Deluxe? My 04 is Deluxe, but I'm really not interested in buying more than I need. TIA!

My personal opinion - you will find Basic more than adequate for your needs. It also handles investments very adequately.

Basic will give you full downloading capabilities [Web-Connect or Direct] for all bank and credit card accounts that provide such services.

I had been using Basic for several versions, thru QW05, for cash flow accounts, investments and renal property management. Recently upgraded to QW06DLX as thought I might find the new image attachment feature useful. The image attachment is not included in Basic. Haven't tried it yet so the jury is out on this feature.

Otherwise, the primary differences between Basic and DLX are the planning tools [add-ons] included in DLX - e.g., Tax Planner, Retirement Planner, Debt Reduction Planner, etc. Personally, have never found these essential for my needs. Basic does not support downloading web entry in Quicken.com. Basic does not include specific 401k accounts but have handled this using a tax-deferred brokerage account with no problems.

I just got Q06 and tried this feature. It is nice. I was afraid it would bloat my quicken file, but I was pleased to find out all they do is create a subdirectory structure with the attachment unmodified (and hence viewable even without Quicken). Only complaint is the directory name is very obscure if browsing it outside of Quicken.

Well, after reading this, I feel mislead into buying Premiere. Anyone know what exactly "maximize your investments" difference as noted on Intuit's website means when comparing Deluxe to Premiere?

Overall, Q06 seems nice. Not really worth the $$ over Q05, but I upgraded anyway since it seems so far like they didn't do anything too drastic to break the product.

I agree. I think that's all you need. That's what I'm using ('05). Keep in mind when you visit the website, that Intuit sorta tries to hide the fact that Basic exists.

What exactly does that mean?

Basic won't do some investment transactions; I believe employee stock options are one type it won't handle.

You can enter transactions at Quicken.com, then download them to Quicken: it's called "Web Entry".

Nor does it do 401(k)s, savings goals and a few other tidbits.
