Running Quicken Home & Business 2005. I want to print out a report showing my cash balances, less my credit card debt. This is the same data that automatically appears in a vertical column on the left side of the page whenever I open Quicken. When I generate either a Cash Balance Report, or a Net Worth Report, I get a bunch of interval columns, all with the same date, and all with the same data. Depending in which interval I select, I get either my actual totals in the Totals column on the right side of the report, or a zero total. In all cases, I get just zeros in the interval columns (other than the total). I have been using Quicken for about ten years and am very familiar with the reports, but in this case I am stumped. How can I get a simply one column Cash Balance or Net Work report??

Report, or a
interval
Have you trid selecting 'NONE' in the Intervals box? - I get what I think you are looking for with this option. Have not observed behavior you are describing - Interval columns with zero values?

Yes, I have tried that, and just tried it again. With the interval set to NONE, I get seven columns, all labeled exactly the same:
5/15/2005 BalanceThe seventh column, on the extreme right side, has my balances. It is possible that at some point I tried to fix the report and did something wrong that has now fouled me up. If such as the case, I would still need to figure out how to fully delete what I have botched up and revert to Quicken's standard report.
I get just the one column with the account balances - have not been able to duplicate what you are describing????
I think you definitely have some corruption. I remember that when I was testing Q2005 deluxe, I had some problems with, at least some, reports not using the correct "default" criteria (they would use "Include all dates" when the default should have been YTD, and they would use an interval of a "month", when the normal default interval is "none"). And sometimes the reports would hang or crash Quicken. This all happened in a file that I used for testing only and which I had never cared much about what happened to the data. My regular Quicken data file did not have those problems (though the problem of report "preferences" not sticking is still true).
You can try fiddling with your report "Preferences", though I am skeptical they are the cause of your problem. You could try setting the preference that says "Customize report before creating" to see if you can get a report with no interval if you customize before generating. If nothing in Preferences helps, you could try Validating and even super-Validating your file (backup first). I do not recall that doing that ever helped me with my problem, but it is worth the effort.
If all else fails, you could consider trying to setup a new Quicken file: it is theoretically possible to use a QIF file for this purpose; export "All Accounts" (and lists, etc.) then import "All Accounts" to an empty Quicken data fileset. If you wind up trying this, you will probably have to do some more work after you import.
Short answer to a long thread...the Validate utility seems to have fixed the problem. When I ran Validate, it detected one error in one credit card account. After Validating, both the Net Worth and Cash Balance reports contained just one column. I have no clue why this worked, but it did. Alls I can say is...thanks!
