XG2005&2006 Cdn - Employee Stock Options & Net Worth Report

Hi,

I am using Quicken XG2006 Canadian Edition, although this issue was existant in XG2005

Just a bit of background... I have been a Quicken User since its inception and have data entered from 1987. I wouldn't say I am an 'expert' at all with Quicken, but I am 'very familiar' with the functioning of the program.

I am concerned with the Net Worth Report and how it shows Employee Stock Options.

Even though I have exercised my Employee Stock Options over the years (I still have some outstanding), the full amount of ALL options I have ever had appears in the Net Worth report. This inflates my Net Worth, as the funds, when exercised, have been put into other investments which also appear in my Net Worth Report.

My Account List, on the left side of the screen, shows my Employee Stock Option current value correctly. This is the number I am looking for in my Net Worth Report.

As well, I have a habit of hiding my accounts once they are no longer active or do not have and will not have a balance in the future. It seems that, once hidden, when I run the Net Worth Report for my entire history, subtotaled annually, was not showing the hidden accounts. I have to verify this, as this was the case when I just upgraded to XG2006. I will go back and insure that the "Don't include in totals" column is NOT cheked off.

I would appreciate anyone's insight to my Employee Stock Option question, however.

Thanks & Regards...

Have XG2004, I can't answer your stock option question since I haven't exercised any of my options.

As for net worth, you're correct, hidden accounts are omitted, as well if you run Category reports, hidden account transactions are excluded.

I have a question though, since your using XG2006 and I'm considering upgrading this year.

In the Cash Flow section of XG2004, the standard Expense Pie Chart and Income/Expense Bar Graphs, Intuit took away the ability to include internal transfers. For example, if you have a mortgage and pay it from a chequing account, there's no way to include the expense TO MORTGAGE, therefore, the pre-defined charts are always understated.

Did they fix this in XG2006? It worked in Quicken Deluxe 2001 Canadian Edition, and I've been pissed ever since. I contacted Intuit, they know it was a problem, although no update was issued...interested if fixed in newer versions.

Like yourself, very familiar with the program, data entered since '92.

Thx.

Maybe transfers were omitted from the Income and Expense graphs because transfers aren't income or expense ... just cash flows.

I'm a US user, so can't verify this directly: are you saying that you can not select "categories" for those two graphs? If you can select categories, are you saying that your account categories - such as [Mortgage] - are not at the bottom of the list of categories?

Yes, you can select Categories at the bottom of the list, including [Mortgage] for example. However, the mechansism to include Internal Transfers is no longer there (there's no longer an Advanced tab), so even if you select [Mortgage] it is not included in the expense charts. It's frustrating, since you can setup reports or your budget to include these.....same problem if you have a car loan, the TO Car Loan is not included. What I wanted to know was is this fixed in XG2006, since this would be the only reason for me to upgrade this year.
