Net Worth report not matching net worth in account bar

I have traced the error to securities that were sold and are now hidden. I can not seem to correct the existing erroneous negative balance for a security using a transaction. Anybody know a trick to correct.

"customize" and exclude accounts?

You don't say what version of Quicken you are using. If Q2004 or later, look for placeholder transactions.

I can not "exclude" account because the error is in an active account. There is one security in the acitve account that I no longer own that still shows up in the net worth calculation. I have tried to adjust the balance with a transaction but it will not GO AWAY.

A "placeholder" is an "Adjust Share Balance" transaction; it has an "Action" value of "Entry", and it can create negative shares owned. Usually reports or displays that contain placeholders - even, or especially, when the placeholders are not visible - will have a footnote to that effect with an asterisk alongside.

If you have one or more placeholders, you may have to delete them and manually enter transactions (Buys, Sells, Shares Added, Shares Removed, etc.) to produce the correct share balance.

Not sure why you have to "fool" Quicken; I would think if you have entered your transactions correclty, no fooling would be necessary.

One option, as explained, is to customize the report to eliminate the account.

A better option is to fix the hidden account. If it's still showing a negative balance, you should get this balance to zero. A simple way is the do a ShrsIn transaction to get the balance to zero.

I can not customize the report to exclude this acct because it is an active IRA account with multible active mutual funds. The only error is in one closed fund that shows no shares but has a negative balance. The balance is always the same (ie not dependent on share value). For example, I all shares on 11/05.

09/05 $37,000 10/05 $38,500 11/05 -$3118 12/05 -$3118 01/06 -$3118 02/06 -$3118, etc.

I tried "adding shares prior to the 11/05 sell date, and it did have an impact. The net worth calculation can be adjusted to show zero, but then the actual account value goes up corresponding to the shares added. I can not understand why the net worth calculation on the report, and the net worth on the account bar show different values. This is also an account that does not suppor the Quicken 2005 download protocol, so all entries are manual. I like this program, but I hate having accuracy issues I don't understand.
