Category List Anomoly

I am using Quicken 2006 Deluxe now, I have used Quicken since about '88

I see unusual behavior in my category list (Tools/Category List) and I think it's corrupted. Several categories show up on the list as subcategories of a category called 'Salary'. They are not subcategories. If I click on the edit button with any of the 'subcategories' highlighted - the dialog box indicates the correct category characteristics even though it displays as a subcategory of 'Salary' on the Category List display.

'Salary' also shows up as a unique category below 'Expense' and 'Income' and above 'Transfers and Payments' when I contract the lists.

I also see a group of categories under a new category called (eurosign)v. (I cant type the euro sign)

Validating my file didn't change the way display appears.

If I used the drop-down menu to enter a category, the drop-down menu shows the categories correctly.

I am reticent to delete the 'Salary' category since it could take all my other valid categories with it

Any suggestions or explanations? (maybe this is a feature I don't understand?)

Thanks,
