Corporate Spinoffs

I want to enter a 3M spinoff of Imation and I'm getting an error message: "Security name already in use."

I am using Quicken 2006. I clicked on the placeholder entry in the transaction history for 3M, chose Enter History, chose Enter Missing Transaction, and chose Corporate Security Spinoff. The security name was already there in light type. I entered the rest of the information required.

When I got the error message, I deleted Imation from the list of my holdings and tried again. I got the same error message even though I don't see Imation in my list of holdings now.

I don't think you can delete a security, unless you delete all the transactions associated with it.

Thanks for your response. I have checked my list of transactions, and I don't see any involving Imation. Do you think there is any place the security or transactions could be hidden?

Thank you. I discovered Imation was on my Securities List after all. There were no transactions, and I was able to delete the Imation listings and was able to complete the spinoff transaction. I appreciate your help.
