DDOS attack on my site

Just experienced and attempt of a DDOS attack on my site for Quikiwiki.com as well as some sections of my personal web site.. Some jerk apparently didn't like the way the poll was going so they scripted up something to bombard my site pushing up the numbers in the poll. They were also hitting some other sections of my web site.

Now Quikiwiki.com is not doing that good in that not many of you are signing up nor participating. OK, fine. I will just unregister the domain as it make no sense for me to pay for this if you guys aren't gonna use it. But if I'm going to be attacked about this too then I'll just shut it down now.

Funny how some immature people can ruin things for everybody.

You are being tracked down and expect your ISP's to be notified of your illegal activities!

What makes you think it was a DDoS and not a DoS ?

What would someone mount *any* Denial of Service against your site ?

What proof do you have to even make the claim ?

What are you posting this information in a Quicken NG ?

The attack came from over 200 different IP addresses from a vast range of IP domains all in a matter of minutes, flooding my relatively weak server and knocking my domain off the map, as well as stopping critical services that my domain provides like email, etc.

Question doesn't make any sense. I assume you mean why not what. I don't know. They are pissed at me for some reason.

Yes my log files showing various hits to my web site, some 3000 comments added to my blog pages with wonderful information about penis enhancement, etc. Oh and seeing the load on my sever shoot up from it's normal 1 or 2 to 33 right before my eyes. Is there any more proof that you require?

Again, because one of the places they attacked was the Quikiwiki poll that I had entering over 200 votes where in the last what 4 months only ~75 votes were cast. All votes were cast to the same answer - the idiot answer. Plus there was a pretty long thread that I engaged in right here in this news group regarding the same topic the poll mentions where many people seemed to get very pissed at me because I held the unpopular opinion.

Any other questions (smart ass)? Please make sure they're in proper English next time...

Do you think your attitude might have something to do with it?

All past arguments between us aside, Good Luck!

There's nothing lower that the scum-suckers that send out DDoSs, worms, viruses, etc., "just for the fun of it."

Thanks. The attacks seem to have subsided now. At least the attacker knows that 1) I will report it and 2) I will fix it.

I am glad that your problems have subsided. I noticed however that you include your vcard information with each of your posts (I deleted it here). That seems like a very risky thing to do. If anyone on these groups really needed your address, work phone, home phone, or fax phone number, you could agree to that through direct email. I would also suggest you mung your email address. Spam Robots are continually searching for new addresses.

Just my 2 cents. And by now we are very, very far off-topic.

No need to.

Not at all! I've been publishing my personal information for years. Never a problem. I don't live my life in fear that somebody might find out about me.

They could do that too.

Thanks but no thanks. Again, I live my life without fear. I also personally believe that I'd rather be "approachable" than "hidden". As such I've implemented my own spam filters which work extremely well (thank you very much).

Big deal!

No problem.
