Duplicate entries - find and delete ?

How can I find a summary of duplicate entries which I may have downloaded?

It may not seem so, but this isn't an easy question to answer.

Quicken has no such animal, because, I think, only the user, looking at their own data, can tell which transactions are truly duplicates. And, because Quicken tries not to allow the same transaction to download more than once.

If you know what range of transaction dates the duplicates occurred within, you could create a Banking (or Cash Flow) Transaction report selecting on that date range and sorting by date. If you you've never modified the transaction dates, this would at least put any duplicates in close proximity to one another and easier to spot.

[You could also try to syncronize this with printed statements from your fi, to help determine which transactions don't belong.]

And as an added benefit (if you have a Quicken version newer than Q2005, or maybe Q2006), you can initiate the delete of selected transactions from the Banking Transaction report. That is: you can use Windows Explorer selection techniques to select multiple transactions in the Banking Transaction report, then click Edit (in the report), and tell Quicken to delete all the selected transactions at once.
