Folder Confusion

I'm upgrading from Q2005HB to Q2008HB from CD. As soon as I began I was asked where I want the program installed. It defaulted to the folder I apparently named "Quicken 1-2-07" when I reformatted the disc last year. I also have a folder named "Quicken" right above it. Both contain subfolders named "certs", "INET", "Movies", and "Sounds". The 1-2-07 folder contains a lot of other files in the root 1-2-07. I assume this is where my program has been running from. The subfolders in the smaller folder simply labeled "Quicken" are empty but there are four files in the root: "err_rep.chm", "INSTALL.INI", "LICBRICK.LOG", and "QSE.INI". These same files appear in the larger folder as well but with different dates except for "err_rep.chm". I'd like to clean this up with someone's help please.

Though I can't seem to find a simple statement anywhere on what to expect when I attempt to install 2008, I assume 2008 - if I target the "Quicken

1-2-07" folder - will overwrite, erase, and rearrange whatever it needs then leave me with 2008 ready to run.

Q1) Is my last statement correct? Q2) I'd like to get rid of that smaller "Quicken" folder. Can I just delete it? Q3) Assuming I get rid of the folder in two (renaming it if necessary rather than deleting it), how can I get "Quicken 1-2-07" renamed as simply "Quicken"? Just do so after 2008 installs or rename the folder before the install?

When you say "above," I am assuming you mean that it is listed in Explorer as in the following:

Program Files |-Quicken |-Quicken 1-2-07 |-QuickBooks

And NOT:

Program Files |-Quicken | |-Quicken 1-2-07 |-QuickBooks

Yes, but not something I rely on.

Yes, but I'd move it to the recycle bin first.

The install of Q2008 will uninstall Q2007. In order to avoid inheriting cruft from the Q2007 installation into your Q2008 installation, I would recommend doing what I do, which is to install in a new folder entirely. Namely:

Program Files |-Quicken |-Quicken 1-2-07 |-Quicken08

After you have verified that Q2008 is running peacefully, delete BOTH the Quicken and the "Quicken 1-2-07" folders.

Thank you very much. I braved it, deleted the Quicken folder, renamed the "1-2-07" to "Quicken", installed 2008 and now I'm examining the results. I appreciate the help.

P.S. Would you happen to know what the little Quicken check marks are doing directly under the dates in many of my bank registers? I notice there are no check numbers either.

They denote tax related transactions. The little check mark icon should look familiar from a TurboTax box. This little graphic is new to Q2008, so no one who has never used Q2008 will have no idea what you are talking about.

The concept of check numbers still exist in Q2008, so you'll have to be much more specific about what you are and are not seeing. Also note that my bank has not be downloading check numbers in the NUM field for the last month or so. Could this be the issue you are seeing?
