folder structure

Q05 H&B

I'm perplexed why my data file gets stored in a folder called "basic" (which to me means the basic version) when I have 3 other folders I assume are created with the version name of quicken they apply to.....deluxe, premier hand "HaB" (which I assume stand for "Home and Business").

I'm asking not but because I'm a geek with nothing better to do with my time but because I'm doing some cleaning up of my drive and have noticed that all my previous data files (I create a new one monthly) are in this "basic" folder. In addition when I go to open a data file it opens from this "basic" folder. So this suggests to me that my installation of Q is operating out of this folder.

I even uninstalled the product and rebooted, noted that except for 2 folders (neither of which are the issue here) where deleted. Then reinstalled, rebooted, and noticed that the same folder structure was re-created.

Another words, don't these four folders suggest the version of Q one is using, and why would my H&B version being running out of Basic. Registry issue?

You can put your Quicken data in any folder you like (as long as your Windows user has read/write access to it). If your data is in the "Basic" folder, it was (at some point) your choice; Quicken does not force the data to be in any particular folder.

No, the Quicken executible program does not run from any of those version specific folders; they do contain some Quicken version specific files (things like desktop icons, program displays), but not the program itself. The Quicken program file name is QW.EXE; it should be in the folder one level above the Basic, Deluxe, etc. folders.

(A new Quicken data file every month?)
