Can't change file name.

Q H&B 2006.

For some reason I suddenly can't change my file name. I use this methodology to protect myself each month I reconcile my main checking account. Having been using the method for over 10 years.

Ex. Its january 07, I get my feb 07 bank statement.

  1. I back up January07
  2. I change the name of the working file to febuary07. I do the reconcile. If I make a mistake or have any kind of problem. I can restore january07.......and start over.

However, suddenly quicken is saying "Can't rename the quicken file. Make sure the file name is not in use.".

First off......I've never had this message or any other, renaming even the file in use.

Here's what I've tried.

Closed quicken and opened without any data file. Then attempted to file \file operations\rename.

Tried multiple different files (I get a backup inventory of the last

12 months)

Uninstalled quicken, rebooted, reinstall, rebooted.

Ran validate

Ran Supervalidate

So now I'm wondering if I've someone deleted a file necessasry for file names or something.

Will listen to all input.

thank you.

Obviously something has changed for it to suddenly stop working. Have you installed new software recently? Perhaps upgraded to Vista?

I'm curious as to why you create a new file each month rather than just making a backup copy.
