Name Change GMAC to ALLY

My register for ALLY Demand Notes is still carried in Quicken 2008 H&B as "GMAC Demand Notes". I read HELP on making a corporate name change but I'm having difficulty finding "In the Enter Transaction list, select Corporate Name Change". I'm in the account register (Transactions) under the Investing tab but I can't come up with any "Corporate Name Change" option. I did, however, change to the Overview screen and selected the "Edit Account Details" button.

Can I simply change the name on this screen? That probably will ripple back throughout the entire register and I wouldn't want that to happen. The account isn't involved in any online update.

Hi, Jay.

I've never used H&B and I haven't used 2008 in 3 years, so my suggestion might not make sense to you. But, in Quicken 2011 Deluxe, if I open my Merrill Lynch account Register and click "Enter Transactions", I get a drop-down list of choices. It starts with "Buy...", but if I scroll down to the second page I find "Corporate Name Change" (between "Cover Short Sale" and "Corporate Securities Spin-Off"). I've not had occasion to actually use this, so I don't know how well it works. Please report back for the benefit of others.

Thanks for the quick reply, R.C. I've dug a little more and moved up into my stock accounts. As with GMAC, the registers are under the "Investing" group. However, when I looked at them all listed one after the other, I found GMAC listed as a "Bank" type (check writing capability with that account though never used.) Checking other Bank types, the Enter Transaction but isn't there, just a tab for Transaction (the register). Stocks, on the other hand, DO have such a button. Sooooo.... I guess I'm a bit more knowledgeable about a distinction... but I still don't know quite how to proceed with "Bank" type.

I'm tempted to just change it under Edit but it's probably more prudent to wait another day to see if someone else might have some hands on experience. I tend to think the procedure will be the same for both 2008 and 2011 (which I'm forced to buy before the end of April.)

Thanks for your help, R.C. You help me get a little closer.
