Installing Quicken 2008 on a desktop and a laptop

According to the licence agreement Quicken 2008 H&B Canadian cn be installed on two computers per household. Is it necessary to re- register each time. Also will there be a problem if I purchase a new machine (a laptop) and remove the program from one of the previous machines and install it on my new laptop? Can Quicken be used to download quotes and banking information to the laptop from a location other than my home? Thank You Andrew

I'm using the US version of Quicken 2008 H&B but hopefully the same information applies to the Canadian version....

I have 2 laptops. I have installed Q on both machines. I do recall having to register the program on both machines but registering Q is not a big deal. Just use the same ID & password on both machines.

When I switched laptops I just copied the entire folder that contained my quicken data to the other laptop and used the File>>open command to find the Q files.

As for using the laptop from a location other than home....as long as you have an internet connection you can update the Q files on your laptop. That's the beauty of having a laptop.

I think you can avoid the full registration process (and it shouldn't be needed since you did it once already).

In the Online Menu, hold down CTRL+SHIFT and click "One Step Update". Quicken should popup a message saying you'll no longer be asked to register.

Thank you I discovered that registering on the laptop after registering on the desktop was not necessary. I was able to update on the laptop with no problem I am sharing the same file on a network so maybe that is the reason

Just be aware that Q is not supported to be run on a network so make frequent backups just in case something goes wrong.
