online banking

I help my aunt pay her bills online. She uses my computer to pay her bills and she uses the bank of america website to access her account. I have it set up in a way that she has easy acess to her account and now the bank blocked it. Can I call Bank of America for her and tell the bank to restore her access to online banking.

Probably - if you have Power of Attorney - otherwise she'll have to call. It's her account not yours.

I have similar problems with discussing my wifes investment accounts with Vanguard. I have her call and get connected with the service desk, after they verify that she is the owner of the account she turns the conversation over to me.

This is a security issue for the bank.

They want to be sure they are indeed talking to the owner of the account before they will take any actions. I would hope that once they verify your aunts identity and account ownership they would then discuss the problem with you. Be sure to have both of you on the phone when you discuss the issue with the bank. That way if they have any questions of your aunt she will be available.

Hope this helps.

You can compose an email for your Aunt, then let her log on to her BofA account and copy/paste what you composed into an email to BofA; I suspect you could find out why the account was blocked, what it takes to unblock it, and probably even get it unblocked using BofA secure email.

Vanguard has what they call a "Vanguard Agent Authorization" which your wife can sign, giving you access to your wife's accounts without her being present (or having to initiate the call). I suspect most fi's have something similar.
