How do I ...

Which part of "Nothing is 100%" are you having difficulty with?

But you still lock your car don't cha! I rest my case!

You can do that too as well as simply garage is. Still it's not 100%. Still you employ less that 100% solutions to the problem. You're making my points for me!

Actually yes I am calling them all idiots. You got a problem with that? They are idiotic in that they don't even take a moment or to to look into it. BTW I'd call people who leave their keys in cars with the doors unlocked idiots too! Wouldn't you?

Sweeping generalizations I do have a problem with.

Globally? Nope. I had a roommate whose father left his keys on the dashboard of his car, windows open, all the time. Never had a single problem. The town they lived in was safe enough they didn't have to worry about it. My wife's parents left their house unlocked most of the time before they moved, again because they felt secure in their neighborhood.

Do it in Manhattan and I'll call you an idiot. Do it anywhere with a Ming vase in the front seat, and I'll call you an idiot. But to call everyone who does it an idiot without understanding the circumstances is just being a jerk.

I had forgotten why I killfiled you when I was lurking in this group. Thanks for reminding me.

Generalizations are generally true! It's quite simple really. The education level of most people is indeed quite low, in general. Denying generalizations just because your don't like them is foolish. It's like ignoring the odds...

Then he was an idiot!

So what? The practice is foolish, in general. Of course this father may live in a very rural area which, of course, changes things radically. But I betcha if he lived in say the South Bronx and did that he'd not have a car!

Again, by and large, most American cities (or cities in general for that matter) are not that safe!

Yes but they were probably in their house. Again, a big difference. Most people don't hang out and sleep in their cars.

Precisely

No it's just being practical WRT reasonable precautions and restrictions that most people have.

Yes I understand, you wouldn't want a real conversation or debate - you just want to talk to people who agree with your point of view. I understand that real world concerns and real data are frightening to you.

As I said in another post, using Truecrypt (or similar software that uses the same algorithms) is basically 100% security for your data, or at least as close to 100% security as is possible with current technology.
