How do I disable the registration reminder from Quicken 98?

I installed my old Quicken 98 on my new Dell desktop and I'm planning on keeping it -- because I can't get the MS Money 05 to import the QIF files properly.

The only annoyance with 98, which actually works well for my purposes, is that it's always bugging me to register the product. Trouble is, you can't do that anymore...Intuit no longer accepts online or phone registration for a product that old.

I've tried changing the Registration value to 0 in the Quicken.ini file in Windows. That works for a while, but then the reminders that I have only x number of logins remaining resume. I could just keep going into the .ini file and changing the value back to 0, but I figure there has to be an easier way. Can anybody help?

[I know, I could just go buy a newer version of Quicken...but I'm cheap! :-) ]

"If you do not wish to use Quicken online, then let me explain how you can disable registration. With the Quicken program open, hold down the Ctrl + Shift keys on the keyboard, and go to the Online menu. From the Online menu choose One Step Update. After selecting One Step Update, with Ctrl + Shift still held down, you will receive a message that states, "You will no longer be prompted for registration." At this point registration is disabled and you will not receive any further messages regarding it. These instructions will work for Quicken 2003-2005. For Quicken 2001-2002 you will need to use the Finance menu instead of the Online menu. All other instructions are the same."

I know it is not for your version of Quicken, but perhaps there is a clue in there somewhere on how you can disable it for Q98.

The other option is to register. I've registered the same version more than once, and Intuit doesn't care.

OK, but how or where do I do that? The phone registration number is no longr current and the online method doesn't work either...I just get something about "Server cannot be found". I looked all over their site (both Intuit and Quicken) and I can't find anyplace to register.

So much for my idea. I guess they've decided not to accept Q98 registrations any more. Hopefully, the previous poster's directions work.
