Hi, Charlie.

Is your Quicken 2012 up to date? In Quicken, click Help | About Quicken. It should be at least Release R 5; some of us have received R 6, which solves a specific problem that most of us don't have.

As I recall, we all had this upside-down sorting on SOME windows when Q2012 first arrived, but it was quickly fixed by an early Release.

Q2012 reconcile has the ability to sort high-to-low or low-to-high. Click on the heading of the column you want to sort on. Click again to reverse the sequence.

Thanks for the reply.

I have version 5 of 2012 installed. The account registers are sorted properly (Date/Order Entered) with the oldest listed first and the newest listed last as it should. But when I go to "Reconcile" a register, the "Reoncile" window list the newest transactions first and the oldest at the bottom. How do I change the "Reconcile" window to list the oldest first and the newest last?

That's what I do when I enter the reconcile windows (click date to reverse the order to oldest first), but how do I get that window to default to that order as it did in Q2007?

I know of no way you can change that.

Those older version didn't "default" to that sort order: that was the only order possible.

None of the 3 sort sequences could be reversed in previous versions. Q2012 is the first to allow the option of changing from oldest first to newest first.

[FWIW: My Q2012 RPM R6 always comes up with the transactions in the reconcile window showing oldest first. Personally, I'm fine with it either way.]

It's been out for several weeks.

Ok, I upgraded to R6, started Quicken 2012, went to checking account reconcile, and the transactions in reconcile are still list newest to oldest, in reverse order of the account register? So, R6 did not resolve the issue.

Any other thoughts?

I'm on Q'11, so I can't verify myself.

Are there any settings in Preferences? I know in the Investment section for Q'11, you can specify whether you want the sort order in Investment registers to be Oldest First or Newest First.

As John said the other day in another thread re 2012 budgeting, R6 was released specifically to address bugs in the budget feature that were introduced by R5. R7 is due out "real soon now."

Intuit has confirmed that they are shooting for April 18; but that is subject to change.

Ok, I think I stumbled on an answer for this.

Locate your Quicken.ini file.

In XP, I would look in:

Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit/Quicken\Config

In Win 7, I would look in:

Program Data\Intuit\Quicken\Config

Make a copy of Quicken.ini (as a backup)

Open Quicken.ini with Notepad. Locate the reconcile section, which should look like this:

[Reconcile] Instruct=1 Sorting=1

If your "Sorting=" option doesn't have a value of "1", change it to "1".

If the "Sorting=" option isn't present, add it ... with a value of "1".

I found an answer on the Quicken Live Community on the Internet and the solution was to remove "Sorting" from the .ini file. I did that and the sequence is now oldest to newest.

Let's see for awhile how that goes.

John and/or Margaret or others:

I am confused.

I have Q 2012 D. Their website at

indicates R5 is the current version. What is this talk about R6 already being available for several weeks? Also, page

says: "Check to see if you already have the latest update. Choose About Quicken from Quicken's Help menu, located near the top of the Quicken screen. If you see Release R5 (21.1.5.33) below the Quicken logo, your program is already up to date." I must be missing something!

Obviously whatever works is fine.

Just for the record; my Quicken.ini file has Sorting=1; and it sorts dates old-to-new.

You didn't say what your Quicken.ini file contained before you removed the "Sorting" option.

My Quicken.ini file contained "Sorting=-1", I removed that and the sorted dates were old-to-new. After your note, I put "Sorting=1" in the ini file, opened Quicken, went to Reconcile for the Checking Account and the sort dates are still old-to-new. So, I will leave "Sorting=1" in the ini file.

Thanks

Hi, John - and Charlie.

As I've often reported, my Quicken file is non-standard, but in Win7, I have two .ini files for Quicken, both very short: C:\Users\RC\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\Quicken\Config\QUSER.INI E:\QuickenW\QUICKEN.INI

Each file is

I have Quicken 2012 on my Windows 7 machine. I just did a search for Quicken.ini and found only a single copy, in c:\Windows. It contains five lines:

[Quicken] Version!,Quicken 2012 Platform=Win32 UsedOnlyForQuickPayroll=1 ExePath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\QW.EXE
