How to Email a transacation report

I need to send a copy of my transaction report for last year by e-mail. Is there any way to convert it to a file that can be e-mailed? There are a couple of options, one that promises XL so it would presumably remain in intelligent columns, but not so. there is some kind of a text option but it is worthless, simply typing the entire name of a homeowners association etc. so the columns just simply stagger all over. There is an option to PDF which goes to the PDF printer but I don't know what to do with that. The straight printing from Quicken is okay on paper. I need to be able to email that image. Job Polasek

The pdf printer should generate a pdf file that you can email. The Excel compatible printing gives a *.txt file. Save that in a place that you can remember the path and filename. Open Excel to a blank sheet. Open a Windows (not internet) Explorer window and navigate to the file. Drag the file onto the Excel window. Follow the suggestions. Vola! Save as an Excel file. You can email that too. I am guessing that the pdf file will be smaller.

Let us know how you make out!

Thanks to you, I was able to find the text file in Notepad and with some trouble could not drag the image into Excel (but then found the filename in the "Recent" files, which I could drag). The Excel file is pretty ugly, for example, when there is a deposit It puts under "Number", a remark like 12 digits e.g. "xxxxxxxxxxxx ADV TIERED INTEREST CHECKING". It gets the job done but fiddling is required. Thank you very much, John P

The objective is you create the report from within Quicken and then print the report but NOT to a physical printer, your print to a PDF printer. That is software that when you print the data it creates a PDF file which can then be emailed.

If you don't have one (and Quicken has installed one in the past and may still do so) you can install PDFCreator on SourceForge.

worst case - just do a Windows SEARCH on your local disk looking for "report.pdf", unless you somehow cancelled out of the operation and it was not created.

It isn't a "gimmick".

Repeat the process and carefully wtach as the PDF is created where it defaults to be saved. It will most likely be tghe same location as the report previously made. ou could as well check the options of teh PDF Printer and see if you can set the default location of the created PDF files.

This really isn't hard.

was curious - so stepped thru the logistics..

Reports -> picked a random report for display Print -> clicked on the printer icon, top right of report header Printer Screen -> select the printer from the dropdown list -> "Quicken PDF Printer on LPT1" Print -> click the Print button on this screen

Save As -> dialog screen displays sub-dir for saving the PDF file mine happens to come up as my dedault "Quicken Files" location.

pretty simple -

I was able to get it done and it is hard! I'll just note all the exact steps required to make a mailable PDF file, for anyone else who needs to do it. (You do need a PDF printer listed in your set of printers).

Bring up the report and right-click \export to PDF\Print (but the printer will not operate-it merely creates a file), shows "Document Library" where you can find the file name as a PDF so it could be copied or pasted. In this case I opened up webmail \new, \attach, brings up Document Library again, from which you can Click or drag it to the e-mail. John Polasek

BTW - all roads lead to the PDF Printer page.... Both of the Print & Export icons at top right, along with right-click menu of Print & Export Not sure why you would do a "right-click", when the command icons are right there in the top right of the screen.

wow - really hard ? Have you never emailed an attachment, photo, etc - to someone ?

what is this area -> "Document Library" ? what version of Quicken ? what version of Windows, or Mac ?

This is one of those discussions that eventually starts detailing how to boil water.

I'm using Windows 7. After right-click, export to PDF, I get the PDF printer sheet which allows me to adjust this and that but there are no icons for exporting or importing. The tab that works is called Print, and that's what puts you off: it should say "print to file". Not having done this since a couple of years ago, I know I don't want to print it because I already have an excellent print job. This immediately brings up a window with a whole roster of files, of which the PDF models can be spotted by their little red icon. As I pointed out it is easy with e-mail, this one at least, to click on attachments and you get another view of that same table of files from which you can select. There's really not that much that is so intuitive about this operation, especially with the misleading print tab. John Polasek

Give the guy a break. For us it may be second nature but to others it could be daunting. { albeit it really isn't that daunting }
