HUGE improvement in Quicken 2010 H&B

I've opened over a dozen new accounts in the past few months, and with the new accounts Q2009 H&B would always crash at the end of a One Step or Scheduled Update. I think I hit some barrier at around 98 accounts to download. I couldn't even split up my accounts between One Step and Scheduled because Scheduled Updates would not retain my choices. It seemed to almost randomly choose which accounts are checked. IOW, I couldn't choose to download FIs A-L via Scheduled, and M-Z via One Setup Update.

WELL! Just installed Q2010 H&B, and Scheduled Transactions *IS* retaining my choices.

I'm going to re-boot, and see if I can do all 98 downloads in one fell swoop :-)

Another improvement, One Setup Update Progress launches automatically, without having to manually click on Update again.

SIGH! Still crashes at end. Will have to split downloads between One Step and Scheduled Updates :-(

I can now download all 98 accounts via Schedule Updates. So, for ME, Q2010 H&B is WELL worth the price :-)

Another HUGE improvement is in moving accounts up and down via "Customize." I have over 300 accounts to organize. Moving them in Q2009 took 3-5 seconds per position up or down. Now, the move is instantaneous. YES, a lot to like in Q2010 for me :-)

Another significant improvement is that the Quicken *.qdf file can now be copied over a network even when the original file is being used.

Well, I do this once or twice a year at the most. If I save 3-5 seconds per place once or twice a year, it doesn't add up to more than a single minute or two. Not worth the cost of upgrading, and nothing to get excited about, as far as I'm concerned.

What you've stated is *one* thing. I think it's a very minor improvement, you think it's major. Even if you are right about its being major, how did you get from that single thing to "a lot to like"?

Add an account beginning with 'A', it ends up at the bottom of 200 accounts, move it to the top, takes 200 x 5 seconds, 1,000 seconds or 17 minutes with Q2009. Q2010 does that in

Buy new Quicken EVERY year shows that you have more money than brains. THAT kind of thinking got a LOT of people into a LOT of trouble in the last year or two. THINK FRUGAL.

I think you are also not the typical user of Q. I can't imagine tracking over 300 accounts. I have trouble keeping track of our 10 accounts (for 3 people).

YAY! Another successful Schedule Update of all 98 accounts. Minor nit, the double-arrow is still showing in the System Tray. Will probably have to re-boot to make it go away.

Another improvement for me. Attachments are now in the main QDF file. Now I don't have the annoyance of having to copy the Attach folder to my laptop :-)

I mean, this is like TOTALLY AWESOME! I just did a One Step Update of my Express Web Connect accounts with NO errors! PLUS, accepting transactions in Q2009 took a LONG time for each one, VERY annoying. NOW, with Q2010, each transaction is IMMEDIATELY accepted, and I can move to the next one instantly.

Of course, many of these new "features" are just fixes of bugs introduced in Q2009. I would highly recommend Q2010 to any Q2009 user suffering from the same bugs as I was. And I would recommend skipping over Q2009 for those thinking of upgrading to last year's package.

I agree, Bob. I've noticed many subtle improvements, which is very nice. Of course Intuit didn't fix *everything*, but I think they've done a nice job with QP2010. I'm glad I upgraded. :-)

Margaret

If you know of subtle improvements, I would very much like to know what they are. I was planning on not doing this upgrade, but I can be convinced otherwise, if there are good reasons--even subtle ones--to do it.

Sounds like all of the "improvements" are actually just big fixes. In that case, it ought to be free to anyone who bought 2009.
