Installing Quicken 2014 Deluxe

Hey gang,

As I get older, I realize I get more and more brain fades - hence my post here this morning :).

I have just purchased and downloaded Quicken 2014 Deluxe. Have been a Quicken user more years than I care to think about, the version I have been using is Deluxe 2012. Now it does everything really I need and much more, but I like to get a new version every couple of years to at least support the program.

So anyway, I have the installation files downloaded and ready to go. Should I go ahead and uninstall 2012 first before staring the installation of 2014? I have my data files saved and stored outside of the Quicken program itself, so can just point to the latest one when I install 2014...

Thanks for any install tips,

No need to uninstall 2012 first The installation will take care of everything for you.

Worked like a champ, quick and easy - thanks again Ken.

After updating a I used it just a little bit, entered some scheduled transactions, not sure I really see anything different at first glance, appears about the same to me.

I don't mind supporting the program though, so at least I am up to date now :).

You're welcome. Glad to help.

Yes, that's been true of almost every version of Quicken for the last umpteen years. They've run out of the possibility of any real improvements.

I update every year or two, and almost invariably then say to myself, why did I bother doing that.

I REALLY depend on Quicken for my Investments vs Banking or Billpay... SO - I always "gladly" update every 3 years - as per the sunset of the online features. Not sure I would do it more often ? Why ? And yup - buy a real CD every time, and from a real store vs eBay, etc...

One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. Intuit is a billion dollar corporation. I will buy a new version every three years. Not 1. Not 2. Not 4. Believe me, if they needed people to buy a new version more often than every three years, they would change the maximum term length, before stopping downloads, to TWO years. P.T. Barnum also made a relevant comment about those who feel obligated to prop up major corporations.

Precisely the way I see it, too.

I believe your reasoning is off base.

First of all, the company's overall net worth or profit is not material to whether one of their products remains viable. Microsoft certainly is financially strong, but they stopped making Money ... because Money wasn't making money.

Quicken is not a big profit maker for Intuit either - personally I think it would be one of the first products they would drop if its revenues/profits fell.

Secondly, the 3 year sunset rule is specifically to insure financial support for the cost to Intuit of providing downloading to Quicken. Without the financial influx to pay for downloading, I think you'd likely be stuck with Mint.

I use Download simply to download PRICES, not transactions. This newsgroup is chockfull of posts from users who have problems with downloading transactions. The price Download feature saves me many hours--however, I do NOT need the grief that so many users have experienced downloading the actual transactions from their various accounts-- by doing it myself I guarantee TOTAL accuracy, the first time around.

I am one of those users who has troubles with transaction downloads, but my experience is not as dire as you paint it.

I have one account (a credit card account) that has issues with the transaction downloads. So for that account, I visit the bank's website, and download a transaction file to load into Quicken.

All my other accounts (three bank accounts, four brokerage accounts, two credit card accounts) work reliably when downloading transactions.

So, do I stop downloading transactions just because one account has issues with it? Of course not.

I have had the same transactions download problem with my Credit Union bank for a long time but cannot get it straightened out. I also go to my CU's website and download copies of the latest few transactions for each account then key them into my Quicken 2014 Premier, manually. If anyone ever gets this figured out I surely would like to know what needs to be done to clear this problem away. Gordon

I've been downloading into Quicken for years. There have been a few glitch es now and then but nothing that comes close to the "grief" you describe. Given how many transactions I process monthly, I would have broken hands if I had to manually key them in.

I have been downloading transactions with Quicken more years than I care to remember. I can't recall ever having any issues with this. I download checking/savings accounts, and credit card accounts.

I will say though, I download each of these - and always have - directly from the financial institution's website into Quicken.
