Investment Transaction Order-- out of wack

I am using Q2004 Premier, version R5, with data back to 1967 (yes) and Quicken files that started under a DOS version eons ago.

Earlier this week, I was inputting recent transactions in my checkbook account (some were manual entries; some were accepting scheduled transactions). The Option setting for the register has been Date/Order Entered for eons. This particular account goes back to 1992 and was originally set up under a Quicken DOS version.

I double checked the Option setting; changed it and changed it back. Quicken absolutely refuses to record checks in the order in which i input them this week.

Now this morning, I was manually inputting purchases and reinvested dividend transactions in my 401(k) register. Quicken refused to post these manual entries in the order in which I input them.

There is no Option setting that I can find for 401(k) accounts setting the transaction order under Quicken 2004. Interestingly, this account was initially set up under Quicken 2001 (which permitted setting the transaction order for investment accounts.)

I am guessing my problems are related.

Yes, I checked the Help library. The entries under "Order of Transactions in Registry" do not apply to investment accounts.

Possible reasons --

I've screwed up. Possible; but unlikely. I have been a Quicken user since the early DOS days. RTFM does not apply. I read it. I am not doing anything exotic, just manually inputting transactions so they bear some resemblence to the entries in my actual checkbook.

My data is screwed up. Gosh, I hope not. But in any event I have validated and super validated with no errors.

I have too much data -- an interesting possibility.

There is some well hidden switch, option, etc that needs to be reset.

Any one have any thoughts? Any one have similar problems

Thanx
