Moving Transactions between Accounts

May 13, 2009 4 Replies

CitiCards had some security isssue and has given me a new credit card for an existing account. Number different on the card, but login and password on the internet unchanged. I have a lot of transactions in the account for the old card which I would like to move to the new account.

The only method I have found is to select by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking each transaction with my mouse. Then moving the selected transactions to the new account via Edit; Transaction; Move menu item.

Is there anything in Quicken like Ctrl-A to select al transactionsl or some way to merge two accounts?

Why not just disable online services under the old account and reactivate it with the new account info? It is basically the same account just with a new account number, right? No need to make it 2 separate accounts in Quicken.

Why? IIRC, all I had to do was change the account number on the account and leave all the transactions where they were.

Yes, just like you would select all files in a folder using Windows Explorer. Select the first transaction in the register, scroll to the end of the register, hold down SHIFT while selecting the last transaction in the register. Use Edit > Transaction > Copy to move the transactions (this avoids having Quicken ask if you want to delete each reconciled transaction); when the account is correct, you can delete the old account.

You could also just leave the old transactions in their existing register, and start using a new account for the new card.

And Laura's idea is also a valid option.

Laura and Robert's suggestions are the easiest. Add a zero dollar transaction with the chnge account information, just so you can easily see what and when (not my idea, but I still like it!!).
