Multiple quickens

I have an old Quicken98 and have tried loading a later version, but in order to do so it eliminates my old one. Is it possible to have 2 versions of Quicken ate the same time, not necessarily running but available to load? If so how can I achieve it? TIA

I don't know about very old versions (such as Q98), non-U.S. versions, or Mac versions, but it is possible with most U.S. Windows versions.

You may not be totally happy with the results, however. Different versions do not always play well together, and in my experience, the most recently installed version generally runs better than the previously installed versions. Be especially careful not to open (or try to open) the data from a newer version with an older version ... in some cases, that could corrupt the data (the Quicken Most Recently Used file list in the File menu is shared among different versions).

During the install process; when you see the first button labelled "Next", hold down CTRL while clicking that "Next" button. Quicken should display a message that it will not attempt to uninstall other versions.

Hi, Moonraker.

The details have varied from one annual version of Quicken to another, and you didn't tell us which year you are trying to install. Generally, though, if Quicken's installer finds an earlier version, it will delete that version before installing the new one into the same folder. But if you select the Custom install, you can specify - among other things - where the new version should be installed. The details will vary, so that's why it's important to tell which version you are trying to install.

I've not done this in several years. John Pollard has run multiple versions for a long time and can furnish instructions. Stay tuned and he probably will post information within a day or two. Or just search this newsgroups for the question, which he has answered several times.

to do so it

Probably not a good idea. With newer versions comes variations to the data files. A newer version may add to and/or update the file format. An older version may see that as a corruption of the data file.

add to and/or

Using John P's suggestion worked fine. Everything worked well for both Qickens for a few days then for some reason as David hinted it screwed up the files, and |I could no longer read my backups. Luckily I was able to put the system back a few days, before I loaded 10,now all is well.
