New Quicken "Feature" - More Ads

Nov 26, 2008 2 Replies

Well, I just discovered what the latest QD 2008 update did - added more advertising. While there have always been cross promotion ads in Quicken, lately they were limited to smaller, unobtrusive text links.

Now, there's a dedicated tab on the main screen titled "Quicken Picks" that consists of nothing but advertising. Even more interesting - if you let it, the program will analyze all your personal financial infomation and provide you "targeted" advertising. Riiiiight....

The primary purpose of R9 is to fix:

a.. Crash Error a.. Resolved a race condition flaw in startup logic. It may be possible to exploit this problem in a manner that causes arbitrary code execution. a.. User Interface a.. Resolved one instance of where Quicken refreshes the screen excessively.

For those who care about what Quicken Picks really is, you can read more at:

If something about the presence of the Quicken Picks tab offends you, and you feel you may not be able to avoid clicking on it: it's a trivial task to remove it.

Edit > Preferences > Quicken Program > Quicken Picks

Uncheck the box: "Enable Quicken Picks".

[Doing this won't free up any usable screen space.]

Personally, I haven't noticed any improvement as far as screen freshing goes.
