Paycheck and Bank Direct Deposit

I have Quicken 2005 Deluxe. I have my paycheck set up, complete with witholding, 401k, etc information. My paycheck is direct deposited to my checking account which is also set up within Quicken.

The problem is that when I download my checking transactions, the paycheck entries are never associated with my scheduled transaction. I always have to skip the scheduled transaction for the paycheck. In addition, things like tax withholding are not be accounted for in the tax planner.

I beleive the fundamental problem is the my bank just reports the paycheck net deposit, thus Quicken never associates the two.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

JM

Do you have the paycheck transaction setup to automatically get posted into your register? If so, then when you download, I would think it would matchup on the net deposit amount.

If all else fails, I would delete the downloaded transaction and let the scheduled transaction be entered.

information.

  • Is your paycheck setup in Quicken set to auto enter? IOW is that transaction entered into your register *before* you download from the bank? If not it will not match. Downloaded transactions *never *match scheduled transactions - just transaction that are entered into the register. * Is the amount that gets deposited into your checking account as per your paycheck transaction the same *exact *amount as your downloaded direct deposit? This is mandatory if there are any hopes of a match. * As for tax withholding being accounted for in your tax planner that is a function of the category used for the tax and whether or not that category is properly associated with a tax item. Is it?

I'm not the OP, but I have experienced the exact same thing using Qkn2005Dlx. To answer your questions:

  1. Although my paycheck does not auto-enter into my checking account, I always make sure that I manually enter it into my register, so that it's already there when I download the transaction from my bank.
  2. Yes. The amount of my downloaded direct deposit is exactly the same as the amount entered into the register as my paycheck transaction.
  3. Item 3 (Tax withholding accounting) hasn't been an issue with me.....

Any help with 1 and 2 would be greatly appreciated.

I have two paycheck setups that work flawlessly (though I have to modify the splits in one for pay that differs with each paycheck); I would be very surprised if there was something unique to paychecks to cause the matching process not to work.

Two other considerations for matching:

1.) The date of the register transaction can't be more than one day later than today. 2.) I believe that the "Num" fields must match; or at least, there are some differences in Num fields that may prevent a match

Finally, under no conditions should anyone retain the downloaded transaction when it failed to match: for one thing, you should be able to create a "manual match" to force a match; for another, the majority of the useful information is in the scheduled Quicken transaction, which should be retained. If for some reason, you are unable to get a manual match, accept the downloaded transaction, get its "Posted Date" (right-click, CTRL

  • left-click "Copy Transaction) - which is probably the same as the transaction date - modify the register transaction generated by the scheduled transaction to have the same Date Posted as the downloaded transaction (same approach as above), set the "Downloaded transaction" attribute, and modify to set the "Clr" field to "c" ... then delete the downloaded transaction.

Hmmm.... You may have solved my problem....

Although I "officially" get paid on every second Thursday, my pay is automatically deposited into my checking account 3 days earlier -- on Monday (sometimes even 2 days earlier than that - on Saturday). In spite of this, I have my automatic register entry dated for every second Thursday (the "official" payday). This appears to violate your #1 statement above.

I'll try changing the automatic scheduled transaction to every second Monday and see if that solves the problem.

Thanks!
