Preventing auto backup

In versions through 2004 I was always able to prevent the auto backup by setting a line in the quicken.ini file. In the 2004 version, for instance, I had the line set:

AutoBackup=0

I just upgraded to version 2006 (premier), and I see the ini file is now very limited, and points to a cfg file. Is there any way in version 2006 to prevent the auto backup from occurring?

The reason I don't want the auto backup is that I do my own backup of the quicken files after applying external (to quicken) encryption, and many others as a scheduled task to another hard drive. I don't want quicken to make additional copies.

Thanks,

The Quicken.ini file you want to edit is in C:\Documents and Settngs\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\Config

Upon a closer look, I think it's the AutoCopy setting you want to change. I just compared the settings in my Quicken.ini file to those in Quicken Preferences, and it appears that AutoBackup refers to how many times you can run Quicken before being reminded to backup (if you're not). Max number of backup copies corresponds to the AutoCopy setting in Quicken.ini.

Hope this helps,

Margaret

Do it work to tell Windows that your backup disk should be an EFS (Encrypted File System)?

Don't know the answer to that one, as I don't use Windows EFS....

Check it out on microsoft.com as I believe EFS is part of Windows since WinNT. (I would use it but I'm alway forgetting things like passwords!)

Yes, you're correct. It's been part of Windows for a while. Your reasons for not using it are mine exactly. :-) Lose the password, and you lose your data. For now, I have other means of securing my data. :-)

So, then I take it no one out there knows how to disable the auto backup for Q2006.
