Q2007 suddenly won't connect online through remote desktop

I have a strange problem. For well over a year I have used remote desktop to connect to my desktop to use Quicken, first on Quicken 2006 and now 2007. That way I can pay bills from work, etc. Sometime in the last 2 weeks, Quicken suddenly won't let me connect to anything online from inside the program -- their web site, my bank, support, nothing. I can run IE 7/Firefox just fine through the remote desktop and can import web connect data from there but is it extremely slow. When the Quicken browser window opens it shows the IP address at the bottom then nothing happens. If I open Quicken directly from the desktop it works just fine.

I turned off my desktop/laptop firewall, spyware blocker, and anti virus program with no change. This really has me stumped as nothing new was installed on either computer.

I just tried an account update and got a [CC-899] error in the one step update window. Here is a listing of the connlog:

Just taking a guess here...when was IE7 installed? I don't know how well remote desktop and IE7 work together. You might uninstall IE7 and see if that fixes things. I know that a lot of things, including some websites, are not working the way they should once IE7 is installed.

IE7 has been running for a few months now, for the most part with no issues. Pages load slower through remote desktop but they do load. It makes no sense that it worked fine forever and now doesn't.

Between the times it worked and when it stopped, did you install anything new, or did Windows updates?

I had a bothersome time when last month or so a Windows update broke something Logitech. It got fixed later by another update, but I had found a separate download to fix it just before windows did.

You might be onto something. I haven't installed anything new but I think Microsoft did update XP Pro between those times...

I'm assuming you have access to the machine you remote desktop into - I don't think remote desktop should have any effect, since you're just looking at pictures of the desktop you're accessing. Are you able to connect directly from the machine with Quicken on it? If not, then it's not a remote desktop issue and it's an issue either with your internet connection setup (with Quicken), or the financial institution you're trying to connect to (less likely since you said you couldn't access Quicken.com either.

I'm assuming you still have internet connectivity on the machine, since you're able to remote desktop into it (unless it's on a LAN and maybe the security settings are set to restrict access outside the network).

It must have been a Microsoft update problem because it just updated again and is now working. My one bank account (Commerce) now shows a CC-501 error but at least I can access the other accounts OK. I couldn't access anything online from the built-in web browser...
