I found a transaction dated in 1978 for a Target purchase in my Visa account that was throwing off my opening balance and my ability to reconcile. What is the usual cause of this? I don't even know if Target existed in 1978!
Just a guess, but you probably entered the transaction erroneously, with the wrong date.

1978!I've done that too occasionally, but this time it doesn't seem like it. The transaction doesn't show up until my 1/31/14 backup (I checked all of Janu ary) and it isn't in the 1/28/14 backup, so something happened in that time frame. All of my transactions are accounted for manually, and there isn't any for the exact amount that is showing up in 1978, although there is one that is close. I have a good guess what happened, but it's too long and bo ring to explain. Short story: it was probably my fumble fingers when I was tired. At least its all fixed and reconciled.
