That's my impression as well.

Regardless, I certainly hope Windows XP support continues until Microsoft comes up with something better than Windows 8. Geesh, what a fiasco that is.

I'm hoping that, too. Rumour has it that the next OS is coming out in very late 2013 or first half of 2014.

Odds are, I'd assume the 'desktop' would be even more hidden and restricted in Win9. The push will be the 'Metro' interface along with Apple-style control as to what you can put on your computer.

I have tried Win8/32.

Quicken 8 for DOS works just fine under it.

This DOS emulator was made for old DOS games. It seems to work okay for other DOS apps as well..

D-Fend Reloaded is a graphical environment for DOSBox. DOSBox emulates a complete computer including the DOS commandline and allows to run nearly all old DOS based games on modern hardware with any of the newer Windows versions.

With DOSBox there is no need to worry about memory managers or free conventional RAM, but the setup of DOSBox is still a bit complicated. The configuration of DOSBox via textbased setup files might be difficult for beginners. D-Fend Reloaded may help and create these files for you. Additionally the D-Fend Reloaded installation package contains DOSBox (including all lanuage files currently available), so there is only one installation to be run and no need to link D-Fend Reloaded with DOSBox manually.

Thanx for that. It works for Win7/64 but with a few problems.

  • Printing - I don't see how to redirect printing
  • Screen display - how to adjust windows size and automatically adjust if using 43 line mode
  • ClipBoard - Can't pass text from Win/64 to DOS Quicken 8

Other than that, it seems to work OK.
