Quicken backup vs sub-directory copy

I may have just missed this discussion somewhere.....

To "backup" my Quicken 2004, I usually just copy the entire "quicken data sub-dir" that I have setup "my docs/quicken_files".

The other day, I had added a new mutual fund, and downloaded the latest updates, which created the new seucurity, and added the invested amount.

I then, as usual, copied the entire "/quicken_files" to my LAN disk storage. Later, I copied all those files to another laptop - like I usually do. However, upon starting Q2004 on this other laptop, I noticed that the new security and it's details was NOT included. I then re-downloaded transactions, and it was then added.

SO - question - If I copy the entire Quicken 2004 data sub-dir - is that a "backup" ?? or are there other files updated within the Quicken program sub-dirs that might also be "included" during an actual "backup" function ? I'll try this again, as I have some pending mutual fund transfers.

BTW - I'm posting from Google as the SBC/ATT news servers have been hosed for the past couple of days and lost ALL msgs, and are NOT posting any new ones !

tnx -

Yes.

No. You can satisfy yourself about this by just creating an empty folder and doing a Quicken backup to it. If it contains files not in your Quicken data folder, I'll be surprised.

I would look to one of those copies you did not succeeding, leaving you using your previous data.

I looked for any other files modified with today's date in /program files/quicken/ Didn't look thru ALL the other folders...

I found the .RMD .CFG .DAT .DIR and .QFI so - these files are not backed up, and therefore not restored but must somehow be rebuilt after the daily transaction download.
